Maths: The Price of Cheese

Description: For maths we were doing a inquiry. Me and Tabitha a doing our inquiry about the price of cheese we made a graph and table showing all the information about the price of cheese. We researched the price of cheese in 2015 and 2016 then we made them into a table and graph. In the graph it shows how the price of cheese has gone down and wages have been shooting up. This means that people are getting paid more so the cheese is a lot cheaper.  In 2006 cheese prices were high but wages were low. So people had to work lots of hours to buy a block of cheese. In 2016 Cheese prices were low and wages were high. So people had to work half the time they used to. Here is the sheet showing our graph.

Book Buddies Term 4

Description: In reading we have been doing something called Book Buddies. In book buddies we read books with buddies that have the same goal as us in reading. We also have coaches that help us to make sure we understand our book and make sure that our slide is up to date. We also have discussions with our buddies to talk about what we think about the book. Since I am in bookapedia we do something a little different. Instead of having conversations with our buddy we have conversations in a group. Suzanne has read some books all about one sort of thing. And she will give a question or quote for us to discuss

Market Day!!!

Description: Recently we have been doing prep/Market Day. Market Day is something where you make a product and sell it. But it is not really as easy as it sounds because we have a $20 BUDGET!!! This is where we only have $20 on making our product and making signs that will attract others. You also have to pay back the money that you spent. How you do that.... Well you have to sell your product and make the money that you used. We were in groups of 3. The people in my group was.....  Charlotte W and Bella L. We decided to make Mini Collectibles at first  but then we decided we would make Jellies with three different flavours Orange Mixed Berry and Lemon. Here is our slide showing all the different things we had to go through and a reflection at the end.

Travel buddies

My nephew is going on a long flight to the UK.  He loves animals.  On the plane, he needs something that he can play with and keep him occupied in a small space.  The pieces have to be able to be stored flat in a snaplock bag that can go in his pocket.

3 possibilities to prototype are: Flamingo, Lion or a Giraffe

I have chosen Prototype I have chosen a lion because: I think that this will be easy to put together and fun to play with for a long time.

My first prototype: (This needs to be detailed enough so that someone else can make it)

Tester 1's Feedback and Recommendations: Bella L

I really liked: How you used 3 colours to make it simple and awesome🤓

A recommendation I have is: maybe you should colour in all of the mosquito holes

Based on my tester's feedback, the changes I want to make are: filling in all the holes

My second prototype: (This needs to be detailed enough so that someone else can make it)

I did not get to finish it.🙁 but here is the start.

Tester 2's Feedback and Recommendations: next time you can manage your time better.

The whakatauki we have been focusing on is "He aha mea te nui o te ao,? He Tangata He Tangata He Tangata" In English this means "What is the most important thing in the world? The People The People The People". WE did some art about his whakatuki, The art we did was drawing people. Here is what it turned out to be.

Feedback\Feedforward: I like the way you told us the english translation of the whakatauki Next time you add more on the other whakatauki. Charlotte.W

Evaluation: I think that I could work on the pronunciation of the whakatauki. E.Smithers

For Calendar art this term we have been doing self portraits. We had to think about what represents us and draw the ideas down. That was the first stage. Then we practiced using paint and pastel for our backgrounds that was the second stage. After that we got some card and drew a self portrait of ourselves on it. The last thing we did was the background. We used paint pastel and dye to make the background look effective. Here is a slide showing some effects we used and the finished piece.

This term for writing poutama got split up depending on there writing goals. I was in troys group. We were writing about a tennis ball video. We watched a video and put some words in our books that the video reminded us of what was happening. after that we thought of what our words could do in a story. I decided I wanted to do mine about Birds and Avalanches. Here is my story.

Here is the link to our tennis ball video we watched:

Feedback/FeedForward: I like the way you did not talk a single thing about tennis or tennis balls in your writing. Next time you could add some detail in some bits of your story

Evaluation: Next time I could add more information about some bits in my story.

Discovery Time Reflection

Today (Monday) we did discovery time which we will be doing every week on Monday. Discovery time is where poutokomanawa and poutama get to together and do lots of different activities. This week I did the rotation art. What I made was a hand with lots of lines. To make it look a affective I added colour. This is how I made my art. First I drew line going in lots of directions going of the page. Then I drew my hand in the centre of the page. Now it looks like a hand with lots of line around and on it. To make it the hand stand out I put hot colours on the hand. The lines should seperate each piece of my hand. At the end I coloured in the background in cold colours.

I learn't about using different textures to make my art look REALLY COOL!!!!
